India against corruption - a typical Indian movement

India against corruption movement started with a lot of hope and also got huge number of volunteers and activists. At one point of time it appeared as if we are actually craving for some change and this time something will happen, people of India are speaking for themselves and the rotten political system of the country will be examined and restored to serve its original purpose.
But then something happened, this is what i call typical India. Now the movement is in mess, people's participation has declined considerably and in some time soon the whole thing will be history. What went wrong is the first and only question we will ask after seeing this. Well to answer this question we have to look at ourselves, our past - the history of India. The problem what appears to me is that we want leaders; we want a hero who can take care of all our problems while we rest in peace with our family, watching the hero in action on television or Internet.
It happened at the time of independence when we made Gandhi as our hero and as a result we got freedom only when British were evacuating all their colonies. A country with a population of 27 crores couldn’t stand on their own with all its strength but rather chooses an old barrister. As a result it took us 90 years after the 1957 mutiny to get total control of the law and order of the country.
The freedom we didn't earned left a void or self-respect, pride and most of all ‘freedom’ in our heart and soul which is very clearly reflected during last 63 years. The politicians used public money for their own good, bureaucrats with no sense of responsibility pondered over government funds. Movements after movements, hartal, bandh, public demonstration all of them were no good because the nation never stood up together. Now for jan lokpal bill it appeared for once that the educated youth of the nation is determined to make some changes in society. But slowly a mass movement got limited to Internet and television. Out of the mass movement appeared 'team anna'. Immediately the whole focus shifted from the mass movement to a bunch of people, the reason behind is pretty simple - following and controlling a few people is easy than crores of people across the country. Government manipulated the people and media to weaken the movement and it appears that they are succeeding.
One a group of people are led by a leader then it is very easy to deviate the group just by targeting the leader. Every group needs a leader to take final decision or represent them at some meeting and things like that but for a public movement the leader should not dominate the group. Who was ‘anna’ of ‘occupy wall street’ movement? I don’t know how exactly to tackle the problem but one thing is for sure we all have to come out of our houses and stand together. Sharing some links on facebook and posting stuffs regarding Anna or someone like him will not bring the change. We have to sacrifice something substantial like time, money, comfort may be blood of necessary. Subhash Chandra Bose said ‘It is our duty to pay for our liberty with our own blood. The freedom that we shall win through our sacrifice and exertions, we shall be able to preserve with our own strength.’
